Why use a bookkeeper?

All businesses are required by law to "keep books". Most businesses have their accountants do much of the work, but few people realise that many of the services charged for by accountants can be provided more cheaply by bookkeepers. Your end of year accounts must still be signed off by an accountant, but you could save considerably by having much of your interim work prepared by a bookkeeper. Baker's Bookkeeping is not an accountancy firm, and thus not authorised to sign final accounts, but all our services aim to reduce the work required by accountants at the year end.

Questions & Answers

1. What is the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers?

The institute was the first bookkeeping organisation to regulate its members in practice. Members who are in public practice offering bookkeeping services must hold a current Practising Certificate issued by the Institute.

2. Are you insured?

Yes, we hold a Certificate of Professional Indemnity Insurance.

3. How much do you charge for you services?

We charge an hourly rate for our services and will be able to give you an estimate of the cost of doing your books depending on the number of transactions your business has each month. Some discounts and/or fixed fees can be agreed for certain types of work, particularly at start-up. Initially a free consultation meeting will be arranged at your convenience where your requirements will be discussed and agreed.

4. Do your rates include VAT

No, our rates do not include VAT as I am not VAT registered; no VAT will be charged.

5. My paperwork is in a mess and I have to pay VAT, can you help me?

Yes. Let us take away the time consuming aspects of your bookkeeping and get all your records up to date. Advice will be given during the free consultation meeting.
